Long-time mayor of Allenport, Albert "Sonny" Pipik, 78, died on Thursday, August 13, 2009 in Mon Valley Hospital. Born in Stockdale on July 13, 1931, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Shimko) Pipik. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh, Allenport plant, as a foreman. Sonny was Past Exalted Ruler of the Charleroi Elks #494, an avid car buff and involved in softball in the valley for many years. As the dedicated mayor of Allenport he took pride in his involvement in community activities, especially the park. He was also a retired member of the Allenport VFD. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Agnes Carney Pipik; a son, Bret Pipik and wife Sherry of Allenport; a daughter, Diane Wilder and husband James of Florida; grandchildren, Joshua and Albert "Bubba" Pipik and Michael Uher; a granddaughter-in-law, Amanda Uher; great-grandsons, Julian and Jayden Uher; a sister, Mildred Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ann Sapko, Mary Kurcina, Irene Snyder and Rose Parsons; a brother, Edward Pipik; a grandson, Nicolas Uher; and his beloved mother and father-in-law, Dora and Ditty Carney. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes &Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe, where a funeral service will be held on Monday, August 17, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ernest DeLuca officiating. Interment will be in Howe Cemetery, Coal Center. The Charleroi Elks will conduct a service at 7 p.m. followed by the Allenport VFD at 7:30 on Sunday.
