Albert Tiernan Sr., 81, of Roscoe. Al "Pap" passed away Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011. Born on June 6, 1930, to Charlotte (Fleming) and Harry Tiernan, he grew up in Richeyville with his six sisters and three brothers, Charlotte, Wilma, Evelyn, Rebecca, Annetta, Deana, Harry, Roy and Tom. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Al was retired from Jones and Laughlin Vesta No. 4 / Nemacolin Group Coal Mine. His favorite pastime at home was working in his beautiful vegetable garden. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lois (Peggy) Tiernan; and his three children, Allie (Kevin) Leatherwood, of Wilmington, N.C., Albert Jr., of Roscoe, and Marie (Tom) Russell, of Grand Rapids, Mich. Carrying his memory in their hearts are his seven grandchildren, Garrett and Ian Leatherwood, of Wilmington, April (David) Russell Duran, Thomas Lee Russell, Justin (Jeanette) Russell, Brandon (Brooke) Russell, and Travis (Rebecca) Russell, all of Grand Rapids. Ten great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jacob, Luke, Dylan, Justin, Joshua, Marshall, Charlotte, Joslyn and Keegan. He is also survived by his brother, Roy Tiernan, of Daisytown. A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m. at the Roscoe American Legion Post 801, 520 Furlong Ave., Roscoe, Donald E. Gust Commander. Service will be conducted by Dave Biles, adjutant.
