Alphonse K. Zajack, 85, of Stroll Acres, died Friday, December 4, 2009 at his home. He was born October 30, 1924 in Monessen, a son of the late Peter and Nellie Gorzelnik Zajack. He was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church of Roscoe, a member of the PNA 1146 (Polish National Alliance), the Roscoe Slovak Club, the Charleroi VFW Post 167, a former officer and 20 year member of the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Dept. and a member of the Roscoe American Legion Post 801. He was employed by Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport Plant, as an accounting clerk for more than 38 years. He served his county during World War II in Rhineland with the Army Air Corp. Survivors include two children; Barbara Ann Smith of Monongahela, and Kevin Lee Zajack (Dayna) of Charleroi, four grandchildren; Jeffery and Zachary Smith and Jordan and Emmy Zajack, and one brother; Benedick Zajack of Monessen, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Margaret (Jan. 5, 2003), four sisters; Henrietta Felibota, Lillian Hornack, Geneieve Dominico, and Amelia Zajack, three brothers; Casimire, Edward, and Joseph Zajack. Friends will be received from 7-9 pm Saturday, and 2-4 & 7-9 pm Sunday in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe. A Blessing Service will be held at 10:15 am Monday, December 7, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph R.C. Church with Fr. George Moneck Officiating. Entombment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen.
