Ludmilla "Amelia" Veselga, 101, of Charleroi, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, in Mon Valley Hospital. A daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Druschel) Klingovsky, she was born Feb. 28, 1909 in Vricko, Czech Republic. She is a member of Mary, Mother of the Church in Charleroi. Amelia always lived life and enjoyed life to the fullest. She enjoyed playing cards, which is apparent with her being a 60 year member of her "500" Card Club; she loved going places, no matter what the weather conditions were, which could be why she drove until she was 91; she loved to cook. This started back in the early 1930's when she would cook for Paul & Lloyd Waner, who were star players for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Amelia didn't care how famous or popular they were, she just enjoyed cooking for them. This could be a reason why she was a Pirate fan for so many years, especially of Roberto Clemente; she was an avid sports fan. In her younger years she taught her granddaughter, Kelly, the correct way to throw a ball. She never lost her touch because, at the age of 101, none of the other residents at Flo's #2 wanted to play catch with her during exercise time because they said she threw the ball too hard; she was known for her clean house. When you would call her on the phone and ask what she was doing, she was always doing some type of cleaning; she enjoyed taking care of the flowers on the graves of her deceased family members; she always enjoyed sharing her stories of when she came to the United States at the age of ten and telling her "special" stories to her family. Left to cherish the many memories of Amelia are her daughter, Cecelia Hareczmak, of Irwin; her son, John Veselga, of Charleroi; granddaughters, Kelly Csisko of Charleroi and Paula Hareczmak-Combs and husband, Dave, of Swansboro, NC; great-grandchildren, Davey, Alden, and Amelia Combs; her sister, Mary Rice and husband, Sam, of California, PA; sister-in-law Virginia "Bubbles" Klingovsky of Charleroi; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Philip John Veselga; a son, Philip J. "Buddy Boy" Veselga; three brothers, Louis, Joseph, and Andrew Klingovsky; and a sister, Anna Metzko. Friends will be received Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 825 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Feb. 4, at 10:30 a.m. in Mary, Mother of the Church with Rev. Gerald S. Mikonis officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Flo's #2 in Elco for the excellent care and love you gave to Amelia.
