Andrew 'Ace' Santo, 88, of Roscoe, passed peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2009, surrounded by his family. He was born Dec. 2, 1920, in Stockdale, a son of the late Peter and Mary (Kacsan) Santo. He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church of Roscoe, Roscoe American Legion Post No. 801, the Roscoe Slovak Club, the Belle Vernon Moose Club and the Charleroi VFW. He retired from Wheeling- Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport plant after more than 40 years of service and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Charlotte (Thorpe) Santo: four children: Cheryl Smith (Frank), of Twilight, Edith Van Varen Berg, of North Charleroi, Dennis Santo (Marilyn), of Smithton, and Andrea Zdancewicz (Robert), of Florida: three grandchildren: Kim and Kelly Smith and Bryannan Santo; one great-granddaughter, Katie Smith; three sisters: Julie DiRito and Ann Pierard, both of Charleroi, and Lorraine Santo, of Roscoe; one brother, Albert Santo (Marie), of Belle Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Frankie, Joe, Mike and John; and a son-in-law, Roland Van Varen Berg. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the MELENYZER-DuBARR FUNERAL HOMES and CREMATION SERVICE INC., Roscoe, where American Legion services will be held at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 30, at 11:15 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church with entombment in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.
