Betty Mattey

Betty J. Mattey, 91, of Stockdale, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013. A daughter of the late Loren and Ellen Ahlborn Thurston, she was born June 23, 1922, in Southwest, Pa. Betty was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and worked for over 25 years for the former Robert Shaw Co. in New Stanton. She is survived by nieces, Linda Kapalco of Uniontown, Georgette Sapko and husband, George, of Stockdale, Joann Niccolai of Blainesburg; nephews, George Mattey and wife, Joyce, of Brownsville, and Steve Mattey and wife, Dee, of California; grandchildren, Steven, Joseph and Joann Mattey; several great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Susan Mattey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Mattey; son, Joseph "Buddy" Mattey; brother, Jay Thurston; and sister, Pearl Stewart. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the MELENYZER-DuBARR FUNERAL HOMES AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe. A funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Roger A. Statnick, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Brownsville.
