Charles Dunkerton

Charles Dunkerton, 99, of Fallowfield Twp., died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Lawson Nursing Home, Jefferson Hills. He was born in Charleroi on Sept. 4, 1918, son of Harry and Clara Schew Dunkerton. Charles was a retired pipe fitter for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Monessen plant. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Monessen.

On Jan. 24, 1942, Charles married Avalon Sharraw, and they would have celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary at the end of this month. Besides his wife, he is survived by many nieces and nephews, great and great-great. Charles was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Clarence and Harry Dunkerton.

Visitation will be held 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday Jan. 11, 2018, at MELENYZER FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATION SERVICES INC. 825 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, with Pastor Eugene Spear presiding. Interment will follow at Mon Valley Memorial Park.
