Charles E. Smith, 94, of Oak Grove, Mo., formerly of the Mon Valley area, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 13, 2008. He was born June 16, 1913, in Coal Valley, Pa., a son of the late Isaac and Bertha Ashton Smith. He was an evangelist with the Church of Jesus Christ, a former millwright with U.S. Steel, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ilene Smith; a brother and two sisters, Isaac D. Smith and Helen Smith, both of Arizona, and Grace Curry, of Clairton; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, George and Joseph Smith and Howard and Arnold Ackerman; and five sisters, Mary Ward, Ruth Carr, Lillian Walters, Ruth Ackerman and Dorothy Curry. Friends will be received Sunday, February 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the ED MELENYZER FUNERAL HOMES INC., Roscoe, and Monday, February 18, from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of funeral services in the Church of Jesus Christ, Roscoe. Entombment will be in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.
