Daniel Cox Jr., 88, of Elco, surrounded by his loving family, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, in Mon Valley Hospital. Born Nov. 19, 1923, in Elco, he was a son of the late Daniel and Elizabeth Walters Cox. Mr. Cox was a very active member of the Roscoe United Methodist Church where he served as an adult Sunday school teacher and trustee. He was employed by Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport Plant, from where he retired after 42 years of employment, and served on Elco Borough Council for 35 years where, for several years, he held the office of Council President. Because of his participation in and support of borough activities and functions, he was a recipient of the "Citizen of the Year" award presented by the Elco Civic Organization. Mr. Cox was known by many in the area as the "Unofficial Elco Borough Historian." Left to cherish the many memories of Mr. Cox are his loving wife of 68 years, Norma Namie Cox; a daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and James Worley, of North Huntingdon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Carol Cox, of Uniontown, and Dale and Patti Cox of Ellicott City, MD; seven grandchildren, Jamie (Kerri) Worley, Daniel (Jennifer) Worley, Heather (Jason) Gurnari, Jason (Megan) Cox, Jeremy (Jennifer) Cox, Kelley (Marquel) Hatcher, and Jonathan Cox and fiancAC., Katie; and 11 great- grandchildren, Jillian, Emma, and Katlyn Worley, Joshua Gurnari, Addison, Brenna, Whitney, Ainsley and Jacob Cox, and Kira and Madison Hatcher. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Heidi Worley; sisters, Dorothy Koval and Margaret Dingle; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Marguerite Cox; and an infant brother, George Cox. Friends will be received Sunday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe, where a funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 28, at 11 a.m. with Pastors Mark Edwards and Ernest DeLuca presiding. Interment will be in Howe Cemetery, Coal Center.
