After a lengthy illness, Deborah J. Layne, 55, of Charleroi, passed away at her residence on Sunday, March 21, 2010. She was born June 27, 1954, in Bayonne, NJ. An avid reader, she was a member of Citizens Library in Washington, John K. Tener Library in Charleroi, and the Monessen Public Library. She also loved her cats, Chloe and Kisses, and was a supporter of the Washington County Humane Society. Deborah was a devoted and loving wife and mother and will be deeply missed by her family. Survivors include her husband, Charles; a daughter, Courtney Dick and husband Andrew of Charleroi; her parents, Harold Smith and wife Barbara of Washington, PA, and Gloria Beck and husband Robert of Whispering Pines, NC; her sisters, Margaret Fredrickson and husband Robert, Linda Carson and husband William, and Marilee Smith and her domestic partner Jane; a brother, Patrick Smith; aunts and uncles, Bruce and Janet Smith, and Peggy and Tom Fulmer; sister-in-law, Elizabeth MacDonald; nephews, Colin Smith and Martin and Zach Yater; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, James MacDonald. Friends will be received Thursday, from 12 to 2 and 4 to 6 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 825 Fallowfield Avenue, Charleroi, where a funeral service will be held following the visitation with Rev James Linn presiding. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
