Dennis R. Slavonia, 62, of Speers, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009. Born in Charleroi on March 3, 1947, he was the son of the late Stephen and Mae Minkovich Slavonia. He worked at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport Plant, for 33 years before retiring in 2002. Dennis was a member of St. Joseph Church in Roscoe, Elks Lodge #494 in Charleroi, and was a 2nd Degree Knight in the Charleroi Knights of Columbus and enjoyed playing golf, gardening, playing banjo and violin, hunting with his yellow lab, Champ, and loved to bake for anyone and for any occasion. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Patricia; a son, Nicholas of Speers; a brother, Stephen Slavonia (Eva Mae) of Monessen; a sister, Cindy Reeves of Spring, TX; nephew, Donnie Reeves (Laura); niece, Courtney Tempest (B.J.); father-in-law, Anthony Eusepi; sisters-in-law, Mary Lee Conte (Ralph), and Irene Slavonia. In addition to his parents, Dennis is preceded in death by a brother, Claude "Beets" Slavonia; mother-in-law, Ann Eusepi; and a brother-in-law, Don "Chops" Reeves. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe. A Blessing service will be held Monday, Sept. 14, at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church with Rev. George Moneck officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela. The Knights of Columbus will hold their service Sunday evening at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
