Dorothy Louise Hershbine

Private services were held today in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Inc., Roscoe, for Dorothy Louise Hershbine, 85, of Roscoe, who died March 16th, 2009 in Mon Valley Hospital. She was born February 23, 1924, in California, Pa., a daughter of the late John and Louise Miller Kennedy. Dorothy was a member of the United Christian Church in California and a 1941 graduate of the East Pike Run High School. On September 17th, 1941, she married her first and life-long love, Lee Hershbine, who preceded her in death in 1996. Dorothy was a devoted and loving wife and mother who always had a kind word for everyone. Her great compassion for others was admirable. She enriched the lives of her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all. Survivors include her son; John Hershbine (Kathy) of State College, daughters: Jeanne Vilsack (Rowland) of West Brownsville and special daughter, Kimberly of Roscoe; a sister, Arlene Calhoun of Ramona, CA; three grandchildren; James Kieffer of Pittsburgh, J.Todd Hershbine (Julie) of State College, and Elizabeth Moore (Gerald) of Clinton, N.J.; five great grandchildren; Brynn, Joshua and Tara Hershbine and Alessandra and Carly Moore, and many nieces and nephews all of whom she dearly loved. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a sister; Jean McCoy and a brother, Ken Kennedy. Sympathy donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, or a charity of choice.
