Eddress "Edie" F. Richards

d. August 5, 2012

Eddress "Edie" Richards, 85, formerly of Charleroi, passed away Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, in Manor Care Health Services in Bethel Park. The daughter of the late Constant and Grace Joseph Fabiszak, she was born Dec. 31, 1926, in Morgantown, W.Va. Edie was a devoted member of Speers United Methodist Church and a member of their woman's group. In 2009, she was awarded with a Special Mission Recognition Award for her ministries for woman, children and youth. She was also a member of the Homemakers Club, where she made items for soldiers and cancer patients. Edie also enjoyed cooking, working at G.C. Murphy in Belle Vernon and also at the Rostraver Giant Eagle in their hot deli. Along with cooking, she enjoyed helping her community by delivering Meals-on-Wheels and also being a former Cub Scout and Girl Scout troop leader. Her greatest passion though was knitting; she has knitted numerous blankets and Pittsburgh Steelers memorabilia for her family and friends. If you ever met Edie, she probably gave you an angel pin which she was very well-known for doing. Left to cherish her memories are her son, Glenn Richards and his wife, Monica, of Hollywood, Md.; grandchildren, Chad Thompson and his wife, Rebecca, of Pittsburgh, and Leslie Richards, of Catonsville, Md.; step grandson, Christopher Coelho, of Cardcus, Venezuela; great-grandson, Alexander Thompson; sister, Rita Pelzer, of Charleroi; brother, Frank Dewitt, of Morgantown, W.Va.; sister-in-law, Shirley Richards; brother-in-law, Robert Phillips; and nieces, Dianne Unsworth, Jacqulyn Thorn, Donna Matianski, Marion Nesbitt, Glenda Denton, Frances Perchutti, Lois Mitch, Kathleen Sobo and Cindy Fulk. Her nephews will be honorary pall bearers, Eric and Joe Pelzer, Ronald and Danny Matianski, Bill Latta, Anthony and Ben Scere, Michael Maddy, Craig Dewitt and Kevin and Kenny Richards. She is also survived by two very close friends, Scharma Schaffer and Debbie Shutterly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Richards, on April 18, 1993; daughter, Sandra Richards Thompson; and her sister-in-law, Maude Matianski. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services Inc., 825 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, where a funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. with Pastor Ross Pryor officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
