Edith Lorraine Santo VanVarenberg, 59, of Roscoe, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2011, in Allegheny General Hospital. A daughter of Charlotte (Thorpe) Santo and the late Andrew Santo, she was born June 21, 1951, in Charleroi. Until her unexpected death, she worked as a seamstress for Model Cleaners in Charleroi. She was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Roscoe, and a social member of American Legion Post 801 in Roscoe and the Allenport Rod & Gun Club. Edith always liked staying busy. She enjoyed going to the casinos, planting flowers in her yard and decorating for whatever holiday it was. She also enjoyed baking, especially cookies, for her friends, walking, going on cruises, and most of all, sewing. Left to cherish her wonderful memories is her mother, Charlotte (Thorpe) Santo, of Roscoe; sisters, Cheryl Smith and husband, Frank, of Twilight, and Andrea Zdancewicz and husband, Robert, of Orlando, Fla; a brother, Dennis Santo and wife, Marilyn, of Smithton; a Godchild, Bryannan Santo, her very close friend, Bernie Stuczynski; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by her husband, Roland, who passed away December 6, 2005. Friends will be received Sunday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 10, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Gary W. Krummert officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
