Edna Frances Diehl, 80, of West Brownsville, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 25, 2010, in the Select Specialty Hospital, UPMC McKeesport. Born in Newell on January 14, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Myrtle Aldridge Redmond. She was the custodian at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in California for over 30 years. In her free time, Frances could be found playing bingo, bingo, and more bingo! When not playing bingo, she also loved to grow flowers, take trips to Atlantic City to play the slots, and was an avid Steelers and NASCAR fan. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Larry Shonts and wife Lori of Coal Center, and Mary Smith and husband Ronald of Ruffsdale; grandchildren Chad and Heather Shonts, Jennifer Grimes and husband George, and Ryan Matthew Smith; four great-grandchildren; niece Lisa Foglia; nephew Robert Redmond, Jr.; her brother, Earl "Butchie" Redmond and wife Nellie; sister-in-law, Dolores Redmond; and her best-friends, Launa Lee and Rose Ann Andrews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Oliver Shonts, her 2nd husband, Charles Diehl, and her brothers, Robert, Leroy, and Wayne Redmond. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Avenue, Roscoe, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2010. Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill.
