Edward E. Maloy, 64, of Elco, surrounded by his family, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, February 26, 2010. A son of the late James and Edna Furlong Maloy, he was born January 11, 1946, in Elco. Ed proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1969 aboard the U.S.S. Hugh Purvis (DD 709). For his dedicated service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Star, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Combat Action Ribbon. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he went to work for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport Plant, as a machinist. He retired in June 2009 after 40 years of employment. Ed is survived by his wife, Lilly Salzman Maloy; a daughter, Rhonda Hodgson and her partner Lenny Redman of West Brownsville; a son, Jason Maloy of Elco; four grandchildren, Christopher and Sarah Redman and Avalon and Chase Maloy; five brothers, Elverson "Huck" Furlong and wife Wilma, James "Pete" Maloy and wife Judy, John Maloy and wife Janice, and Ralph "Moo" Maloy; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Donald "Duck" Maloy. Friends will be received Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe, where American Legion Post #801 will conduct a service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Friday, March 5, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ernie DeLuca presiding. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
