Elizabeth (Betty) Irene Johnson 91 of Stockdale, died Sunday January 15, 2017 at her home. Born in Stockdale on May 21, 1925 a daughter of Emory and Mary Zalom Fabian. Betty was a devoted mother, homemaker and licensed beautician. She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to many card clubs. She liked making a variety of arts and crafts and hosting/entertaining family and friends at her home. She always made the holidays special and magical for her family and was an excellent baker and cook. She took great pride making her home neat, clean and well organized. She was always ready for road trips and loved her desserts after dinner even though she sometimes only had room for just a taste. Betty married E.H. Johnson Jr. (Jake) on September 4, 1943. They were married for 51 years until his passing in 1994. Betty was a member of the Roscoe Presbyterian Church where she was a Deacon and belonged to the Janet Ray Circle. She was a member of several fraternal,social and charitable organizations; The Order of Eastern Star (Past Worthy Matron 1979-1980), The Order Of The White Shrine and Order of Amaranth. She also belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Roscoe American Legion, Charleroi Golden Agers, Past President of Stockdale PTA, the local Travel Club and many more too numerous to mention. In the early years of her life she took an active part in many charitable acts of kindness. She annually assisted a neighbor with an iris show that included both of their yards and all the proceeds went to the March of Dimes.
Betty is survived by 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Dennis Johnson of Stockdale and Herb (Colleen) of Davisburg, MI, a daughter and son-in-law Patty (Harold) Ross of Shelby Twp. MI, a sister Florence Barisa of Ellsworth and a brother Edward Fabian of Belle Vernon. 9 grandchildren, Brad, Chad, Tara, and Derek Johnson, Shara Zoeller, Jeannette Crottie, Kathleen Keith, Martin Ross and Heather Olson and 10 great-grandchildren, Tayla, Shaelyn, Jayce, Cole, Caitlin, Thea, Jacob, Max, Isabella, and Alexander, also one great-great grandchild, Avalyn and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was also preceded in death by a sister Mary Cowell and 4 brothers, Emory, Will, Eugene, and David Fabian.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 18 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in the Melenyzer Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc. 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe where funeral services will be held on Thursday January 19 at 10:00 am with Rev. Candace Cook presiding. Interment will follow at Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Amedisys Hospice, 100 Stoops Dr. #310, Monongahela, PA 15063.
