Estelle Kalnicky, 83, of Fallowfield Township, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, in Mon Valley Hospital. A daughter of the late John and Anna Gurnik Javornisky, she was born Feb. 21, 1925, in North Charleroi. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Mon Valley Hospital Auxiliary, and the Senior Bowling League at Tan-O-Bell Lanes. Upon graduating with the Charleroi High School Class of 1944, she entered the Allegheny General Hospital Nursing Program from which she graduated in 1947. Estelle went on to have a memorable 41-year career in nursing. During her nursing career, she was the evening supervisor at Monongahela Hospital and was in charge of the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at Mon Valley Hospital. She retired from nursing in 1988. Estelle is survived by her husband of 59 years, Andrew; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald D. and Nancy Kalnicky, of Bethel Park; a daughter and son-in-law, Andrea Ann and Gene Russo, of Fallowfield Township; three grandchildren, Jennifer DiPietrantonio and husband Theron, and Jason Scott and Justin Michael Kalnicky; one great-granddaughter Lairah DiPietrantonio; two sisters, Mary Visniski, of North Charleroi, and Alexandra Holovac, of Palm Harbor, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Javornisky; and two sisters, Olga Halesky and Jennie Trenk. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the ED MELENYZER FUNERAL HOMES INC., 825 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi (724-483-2231) and at Grace United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Aug. 27, from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of service with Pastors John Smith and Randy Landerman co-officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.
