George Legarsky, 89, of Stroal Acres (Allenport), passed away on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012. A son of the late Andrew and Lena Pehulic Legarsky, he was born Sept. 14, 1923, in Saltsburg. He attended the First United Methodist Church in Roscoe and was the past commander of American Legion Post 801, also in Roscoe. He retired after 30 years of employment from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport Plant, where he worked as a millwright and enjoyed golf, woodworking, traveling and working in his yard. Mr. Legarsky was a survivor of the Battle of Iwo Jima where he was wounded on Mar. 8, 1945, while serving in the Marines. Left to cherish the many memories of Mr. Legarsky are his son, G. Timothy Legarsky and wife, Linda, of Elco; grandsons, Timothy M. Legarsky, of Long Branch, Aaron M. Legarsky and wife, Heather, of Derry, and James "JR" Legarsky, of Elco; great-granddaughter, Hannah J. Legarsky; a brother, Edward Legarsky of Warren, Mich.; a sister, Margaret Cauvin of Manchester, Mich.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gloria and William Hartley of Roscoe; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Leatrice Weaver Legarsky on Aug. 24, 2009; brothers, Andrew, Joe, John, who was George's twin, Carl and Paul Legarsky; and sisters, Helen Davey, Mary Potistivo, Annie Sarver and Rose Presley. Friends will be received on Monday, Dec. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Avenue, Roscoe, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19, with Pastor Brian Carroll presiding. Interment will follow in Howe Cemetery, Coal Center, where military honors will be presented by American Legion Post 801. Post 801 will also conduct a service on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
