George Safin 88 of Roscoe, died Tuesday September 9, 2014 at Allegheny General Hospital. Born June 9, 1926 in Braddock, a son of George and Elizabeth Belko Safin. Mr. Safin was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport Plant. A member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Roscoe and the Roscoe American Legion Post #801. A WWII US Army veteran. He was a member of the 261st Infantry 65th Division which was the spearhead division for General Patton's 3rd Army in Germany, which was the greater Eastern European penetration then any other American Division. His was the last division to be activated and the first division to be deactivated in WWII. Mr. Safin enjoyed golf, gardening, reading westerns and watching the Steelers and Pirates. Surviving are 2 sons and daughters-in-law George and Connie Safin of Roscoe and James and Joyce Safin of Washington,PA, a daughter and son-in-law Jeanette and Robert Pishney of Yulee, Florida, 2 brothers Frank Safin of Sharon, and Joe Safin of Chicago, 2 sisters Julie Kline of Chicago and Helen Jahnke of Mentor, Ohio, 6 grandchildren George Safin and fiancee Kelly Bradish, David and wife Katherine Safin, Jason and wife Becky Pishney, Stephen Pishney, and Jordan and Matthew Safin. Preceded in death by his wife Helen Bure Safin who died Feb. 18, 1997, a brother Paul Safin and 5 sisters, Betty Yedinak, Ann Ferro, Mary Roberts, Marge Leeper and Kate Vercelli. Visitation will be held on Friday September 12, 2014 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in the Melenyzer Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc. 1008 Furlong Ave. Roscoe. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday September 13, 2014 at 10:00am at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Roscoe with Rev. Edward Litavec officiating. Interment will follow at Mt.
