George Sapko, 98, of Stockdale, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013. A son of the late Joseph and Anna Biersock Sapko, he was born April 13, 1914, in Stockdale. Mr. Sapko was a member of Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church in Charleroi. Before his retirement in 1975, he worked as a chipper in the billet yard for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport Plant. Mr. Sapko liked to shoot pool and would often go to the personal care homes in the 5-Town area to visit and share a smile with the residents. But the most important thing to him was spending time with his family. Left to cherish the many memories of Mr. Sapko are a son and daughter-in-law, George E. and Georgette Sapko of Stockdale; a daughter and son-in-law, Rose Ann and Curtis Geho of Stockdale; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Molar Sapko, on Mar. 21, 1994, as well as four brothers and two sisters. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Avenue, Roscoe. A Panachida service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, Jan. 21, at 10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in the Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Coal Center.
