Private funeral services were held today, Friday, April 29, 2011, for Helen Hidek, 91, of Dunlevy, formerly of Charleroi, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, in Adult Assisted Living in Dunlevy. A daughter of the late John and Dora Lipnicky Matafka, she was born April 24, 1920, in Czechoslovakia. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Charleroi and the churches Junior Ladies Aide Society. Sewing, needlework and gardening were a large part of Mrs. Hidek's life. She was past president of the Charleroi Garden Club, garden therapy chairman of District VII of Western Pennsylvania in the Pennsylvania Garden Clubs, leader of the Charleroi Homemakers, a member of the Mon Valley YMCA Quilters Club, and the John K. Tener Library Association. Left to cherish the many memories of Mrs. Hidek are her two sons; William J. Hidek Jr. and wife, Linda, of Orlando, Fla., and Robert F. Hidek and wife, Ruth, of O'Hara Township; a daughter, Susan J. Anielewski and husband, Tom, of Elco; eight grandchildren, Jason Hidek and wife, Christine, Jeffrey Hidek and wife, Stacie, David and Darcy Hidek, Kristen Salzman and husband, James, Kimberly Wooloff and husband, Carl, Thomas Anielewski Jr., and Kathleen Anielewski; five great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Ryan Hidek and Abagail, Cecilia and Jillian Salzman. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, William, who passed away on Sept. 7, 2006. Arrangements were handled by the MELENYZER-DUBARR FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe. Interment was in Charleroi Cemetery. The family suggests donations be made to Washington-Greene County Blind Association, 566 E. Maiden St., Washington, PA 15301-3798.
