John Sowinski

John Sowinski 94 of Plum and formerly of Speers, passed away on Monday November 14, 2022 at home. Born in Charleroi on August 29, 1928, he was the son of Anthony and Sophie Koproska Sowinski. 

John was a Korean War veteran having served as a Sgt. FC in the Army’s Infantry 45^th Division. He was retired from the former Corning Glass Charleroi after 44 years of service. John was Catholic by faith and was a member of the Corning Retirees.

He is survived by his daughter Glenda (Bill) Miller of Plum with whom he made his home, 3 grandchildren Krystal (Mike) Urwin, Jennifer (Kevin) Jones, and Jonathan (Sabreena) Miller, 4 great-grandchildren; Carson, Rory, Robin and River, 2 nieces; Connie Hajduk and Cathy Sharpeta and a nephew Peter Katinsky. John was preceded in death by his daughter Joanne Kuchera, a brother Edward Sowinski and his sister Helen Katinsky.

Visitation will be held at Melenyzer Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc. 825 Fallowfield Ave. On Thursday November 17^th from 1pm-3pm and 5pm-7pm. A Blessing will be held in the funeral home on Friday November 18^th at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
