Margaret Franks

Margaret C. Franks (aka Veronica M. Franks), 95, of Monessen, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 3, 2011, in the Hallsworth House, Monessen, with her loving niece Joanne Lynn by her side. Born September 3, 1915, in Monessen, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Merie K. Kozel Zdilla. She was a devoted member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church in Monessen and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association. Mrs. Franks was known as "Roonie" by all of her friends and neighbors in Monessen. For 35 years Mrs. Franks worked at J. C. Penny in Monessen and also took care of her mother and father as their health began to decline. Left to cherish the many memories is her two nieces, Joanne Lynn and husband, Rodney, of Charleroi, and Betty Byron, of Monessen; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Franks; an infant son, Joseph Franks, Jr.; five brothers, Joseph Jr., Steve, Andy "Petie", John, and Michael "Rusty" Zdilla; and two sisters, Annie Bedner and Mary Zdilla. Mrs. Franks was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Friends will be received Thursday, July 7, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 825 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, where a funeral service will be held Friday, July 8, at 10 a.m. with Fr. David Nazimek officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Coal Center.
