Mary Evelyn (Jones) Cherven, 83, of Elco, passed very peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Sept. 14, 1925, in Cook County, Georgia, a daughter of the late Quillie and Mary (Moore) Jones. She was a member of the Roscoe United Methodist Church, the Brownsville Area High School Secret Sisters, and she enjoyed being employed as a Sarah Coventry consultant for 18 years. Survivors include six children: Paulette Harris, Sandy Middleton (Bob), David Paul Cherven, Daniel Wayne Cherven, Ruth Marie Walker (Vernon) and Sarah Joyce Holden (Joseph); 12 grandchildren: Tracey Wible (James), Tammy Lantz (Mike), Tammy Mc Hargue (Bill), Wendy Middleton, Kelly Marie and Ryan Alan Cherven, Cassandra Rose and Sean Daniel Cherven, Shaun Paul and Brian Lee Walker, Carl Moroni and Adam Michael Holden; seven great- grandchildren: James Morgan IV, Michael Wible, Christian, Jesse and Donald Lantz, Savannah and Cheyanne Cherven; three sisters: Betty Coppage, Sara Fleming and Irma Kirby; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Cherven, on May 26, 2001. To celebrate the life of Mary E. Cherven, a memorial service in her honor will be held in the Roscoe United Methodist Church, (corner of Furlong Avenue and Church Street) on May 2, 2009, at 2 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Arrangements are being handled by the MELENYZER-DuBARR FUNERAL HOMES and CREMATION SERVICE INC., Roscoe. Mary requested that, in lieu of flowers, a contribution be made in her name to her favorite charity, The Methodist Home for Children and Youth, P.O. Box 2525, Macon, Ga. 31203-2525.
