After a courageous 2 A½ year battle with breast cancer, Pauline Skirpan Harper, 55, of Van Voorhis, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 7, 2011, in Jefferson Regional Hospital. A daughter of Mildred Mulac Skirpan and the late Paul Skirpan Sr, she was born April 4, 1956, in Charleroi. For over 25 years Pauline worked as a nurse in skilled nursing facilities - a job she thoroughly enjoyed because of her passion to work with and help the elderly. In her spare time she liked to read novels, going to Erie with her husband and taking trips to the casinos in Atlantic City. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Larry; a daughter, Leah Harper and fiancAC., Jesse; a son, Brad Harper and his wife, Krista; a grandson, Caedyn Parry; two sisters, Dianna Stache and husband, James, and Christine Skirpan; a brother, Paul Skirpan Jr.; and several nieces. In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by her brother, Timothy J. Skirpan, on June 7, 2011. Family and friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the MELENYZER-DuBARR FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 825 Fallowfield Avenue, Charleroi, where a funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jim Linn officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.
