Richard J."Skitch" McKita, 89, of Charleroi, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, in the Washington County Health Center. He was born on June 6, 1919, in Charleroi, a son of the late George and Julia (George) McKita. Skitch retired from the Charleroi Area School District following 20 years of dedicated service. He touched the lives of many and will be sorely missed. Surviving is his beloved wife of 66 years, Ann (Nantus) McKita; a son, Richard McKita and wife Gay Lynne, of Charleroi; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and John Sanino of Schererville, Ind., and Debbie and David Kurtis, of Monongahela; seven grandchildren, Richard McKita and wife Sandy, Gregg McKita and wife Mishelle, Jason McKita, Kimberly Itczak and husband Tom, Melissa Pruitt and husband Jeffrey, and Richelle and Kelly Kurtis; Seven great-grandchildren, R.J., Dominic and Kelsey McKita, Lexie and Allie Itczak, and Noah and Troy Atkinson; one sister, Marie Seftas; one sister-in-law, Marge McKita; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Ed McKita, and one sister, Harriett Labeka. Friends will be received Sunday from 6 - 8 p.m. at Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 825 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, where funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 8, at 1:30 p.m. with Father John Sedlak officiating. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.
