Robert Kuchera, 80, of Charleroi, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2008, in Mon Valley Hospital. A son of the late John and Mary Harineck Kuchera, he was born September 28, 1927, in Charleroi. Robert was an Army Air Force veteran, serving in Panama with the Sixth Air Force during World War II. Having worked as a security guard, he retired from Corning Glass in 1985. He was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church Parish in Charleroi. Robert also was a member of American Legion Post No. 22, the Corning Retirees, and a life member of VFW Post No. 167, all in Charleroi. He leaves behind a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Sharon Kuchera, of Monessen; one granddaughter, Krystal Kuchera, of Monongahela; two brothers, Victor Kuchera, of Michigan, and Frank Kuchera and wife Peggy, of North Charleroi; step-granddaughter, Tina Vetter, of Monessen; step-grandson, Mark Yonko Jr., of Whitehall; his loving companion of 14 years, Amelia Zmijowski; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Gazdik Kuchera; infant son, Robby; and two brothers, John Jr. and Karl Kuchera. Friends will be received in the ED MELENYZER FUNERAL HOMES INC., 825 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, August 2, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., when a funeral service will be held in the funeral home with the Rev. David Dzermejko officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Coal Center. American Legion Post No. 22 and VFW Post No. 167 will hold services Friday at 7:30 p.m.
