Ronald G. Obitko, 55, of Elco, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, in the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. A son of the late John and Helen Zetko Obitko, he was born on May 31, 1956, in Carroll Twp. He worked for many years as a coal miner but more recently could be seen around the Elco and Roscoe area working as a handyman. Ron was a member of the Allenport Gun Club and the Roscoe Slovak Club and was a sports fanatic. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially baseball, and loved to talk about sports trivia with his friends. On Friday evenings he could often be found playing bingo at the Roscoe fire hall. Ron also enjoyed listening to all types of music, cooking, bird watching and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 37 years, Kathryn Wolfe Obitko; daughters, Michelle Obitko Hopkins, of Phoenixville, PA, Ronelle Obitko, of Elco, and Rachel Obitko-Togni and husband, Michael, of Monessen; grandchildren, Ella and C.J. Hopkins, R.J. Wozniak and Vienna Togni; sister, Judy Sichi and husband, John, of Belle Vernon; and brothers, John Obitko and wife, Diane, of Roscoe, Donald Obitko and Angie, of Elco, and Robert Obitko, of Triangle, VA; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Friday, September 23, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Avenue, Roscoe, where a blessing service will be held at 7:30 p.m. with the Rev. George Moneck officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
