Verda Hodge

Verda Hodge, 95, of Roscoe, formerly of Connellsville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 31, 2013. A daughter of the late Dallas and Elizabeth Austin Herring, she was born Oct. 29, 1917, in Aurora, NC. She was a member of the Roscoe United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hodge was active for many years in the Parent Teacher Association; was on the state and county election board for Roscoe for 16 years; and was a longtime member of the Roscoe Civic Club. Mrs. Hodge is survived by a son, Harold Hodge Jr., with whom she resided; a sister, Thelma Sharpe, of Wilson, NC; several nieces and nephews; and caregivers, Paula Hart, Sharon Kuchera, Lucy Kondrak and Connie DeLuca. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Hodge Sr., in 1984; her daughter, Joyce Hodge, in 2005; a brother, Guy Herring; and sisters, Agnes Larimore and Sally Langley. Friends will be received Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Avenue, Roscoe, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 4, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Sandra Conti presiding. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family would like to express a special thank you to the nurses from Amedisys Hospice for the kindness and compassion they showed in the care given to Verda.
